Sounds pretty good, right? Well, while it may sound desirable, unfortunately that just isn’t reality is it? As much as we may want to live our lives on the mountaintop, the majority of our days are spent walking in the “valleys of challenges” and on the “plains of normalcy”. You know exactly what I am talking about don’t ya? Of course you do. 99% of us can’t just lay on the beach whenever they want to or snowboard down the mountains of Colorado day in and day out. And most likely, you and I are part of that group. Instead, we have to go to school, punch the time clock and do our chores. After all, we have to meet expectations, pay our bills and take care of our responsibilities. That, my friends, is life. And life, no matter how much we want it to be, is not about the hype.
A lot of times we can fall into the same trap of thinking that our new life with Jesus is about the hype too. And it’s pretty simple to do that because a lot of the events that we go to (and that you maybe even just came home from), like concerts, conferences, festivals and camps, are filled not only with great bible teaching, but also, pyrotechnics, laser lights and non-stop entertainment. Now this isn’t a bad thing but it is challenging because when we go home, we don’t have explosions, a pumped up crowd and an energetic preacher challenging us to live each day for Christ. In other words, the hype doesn’t follow us home. What does go home with us is our heart – a heart that has hopefully been refocused, renewed and restored - a heart that has experienced the forgiveness of Christ, which has led to Jesus becoming our Savior.
So, the question is “how do we stay excited about our faith? You know, where we desire to learn more about this “new life in Christ”? That is a great question. And it’s one that every Christ-follower (both new and old) has asked at some point (or at many points) during his or her journey with Jesus.
To come alongside of you in this “new walk”, we have developed a 7-Day resource called “Heart Not Hype. Each day will only take you about 15 minutes or so to go through but it will help you understand your relationship with Jesus a little bit better and encourage you in your faith. So enjoy chewing through some of this stuff for the next 7 days. And while you are doing it, always remember: Our walk with Christ is not about the Hype. It’s about the Heart. Peace.
